The Food City's (or most of them) have regular at this time according to what I was told. They are going to sell only Prem. today (fantastic friday) and then switch back on the 87 octane tomorrow.

<span style='font-family: Arial Black'><span style='font-size: 14pt'>Tri-Cities motorists see gasoline price spike Friday morning, reports of some shortages</span> </span>

Early morning headlines on gasoline prices Friday focused on Canada's 13 cents increase, but Kingsport motorists on the way to work saw prices that had jumped 40 cents overnight.

There were reports of long lines at gas stations in Gate City early today as motorists there tried to fill up before the price hikes hit their town.

The price spike negated much of the information in Thursday's AAA East Tennessee's Fuel Gauge Report.

What that report did have right was it cited another week of hurricane fears sparking another jump in gas prices in the Tri-Cities.

So far there only scattered reports of of gasoline shortages as is being reported by the Knoxville News-Sentinel. CLICK HERE for that report.

That may change during the day. At 9:30 a.m. timesnews.net was told that some of the stations in Colonial Heights were out of everything but the higher grades of gasoline.

There were also reports from Rogersville that some stations were out of Regular grades of gas.

According to the Associated Press, concern over the possibility of a reduction in supply because of Hurricane Ike is pushing wholesale gasoline prices higher. The monster storm is churning toward the mass of petroleum refineries along the Gulf Coast. Many companies are halting operations at refineries in Texas, primarily in the Houston area.

The storm has reduced the crude oil production coming out of the Gulf of Mexico by 77 percent this week "? just days after Hurricane Gustav sent refinery workers off their rigs and compromised outputs.

"Looking to the future, experts are uncertain what direction crude oil prices and ultimately gasoline prices will take,"? said agency public affairs specialist Stephanie Milani.

Local motorists got their own answer to that uncertainty this morning.

The direct word I just got from one local oil company was that they have trucks in Knoxville but they're not releasing fuel to them. Expect $5.05 per gallon as a result.

My brother told me yesterday that when the fuel truck came by his work that the driver told him he had just went to Knoxville to fill up and they had NO fuel so he went on to Roanoke to get it and was the last truck to get fuel, they turned 18 other trucks away. Said they told him dont be surprised to see gasoline jump atleast $1. Then his ex-wife, who is good friends with the Atwoods(own/run payless and that gas station beside it in Coeburn) told us lastnight that we better fill up bc gas is getting ready to hit $5 a gallon.

If this area was more bike friendly and I didn't think I'd get plowed by a coal truck I'd have been biking it a long time ago.
